How I spend my time
The real stuff. Not curated for anyone in particular.
Horses
Started riding about a year ago, later than most people who ride seriously. Doesn't matter. There's something about working with a horse — the patience it requires, the attention — that I find more grounding than almost anything else.
Fly fishing
Early mornings, cold water, and a level of focus that empties your head in a way that nothing else really does. I fish the Guadalupe when I can get there. Still learning. That's fine.
Golf
I've played my whole life. My game is somewhere between respectable and humbling depending on the day. I take it seriously enough to work on it and not so seriously that it ruins the walk.
Fitness
I made a decision a couple of years ago to get serious about this — not for aesthetics, though that's a side effect — but because I want to feel capable for a long time. I train consistently. I eat well most of the time. I'm in the best shape of my adult life and intend to stay there.
Camping & the Hill Country
No signal. A fire. Good food cooked simply. That's most of what I need to feel reset. I get out of the city as much as I can manage.
My daughter & my parents
My daughter is married and doing well — that's the short version and the part I'm most proud of. My parents are aging and I show up for them. Family isn't complicated for me: it's the thing you don't negotiate away.
